China’s independently developed high-strength titanium alloy drill pipe has successfully completed the drilling of 7100m ultra deep wells in Western oilfields, marking another major progress in the research and development of oil and gas well tubing in the field of deep and ultra deep wells in China, which will effectively improve the drilling efficiency and safety of the current ultra deep short radius horizontal wells and other harsh conditions.
Compared with traditional steel drill pipe, high strength titanium alloy drill pipe has the characteristics of light weight, high rigidity, corrosion resistance and fatigue resistance, which is suitable for drilling deep wells, ultra deep wells, short radius horizontal wells and high acid oil and gas fields, and is widely used in the Gulf of Mexico and other areas.
At present, the United States and a few other countries can produce and supply such products, but the price is expensive and the order cycle is long.
In order to meet the demand of domestic oil and gas field enterprises for high-strength titanium alloy drill pipe in “increasing exploration and development efforts”, in 2016, with the support of the national science and technology major project “deep and ultra deep well efficient and rapid drilling technology and equipment” of “large oil and gas field and coal seam gas development”, CNPC petroleum pipe engineering technology research institute and Bohai Nengke Drill Pipe Co., Ltd, We have jointly carried out the research on the domestic titanium alloy drill pipe, and successfully developed the high-strength titanium alloy drill pipe with independent intellectual property rights, which fills the gap of similar products in China.
In June 2020, the domestic high-strength titanium alloy drill pipe completed the drilling of 6400m ultra deep well for the first time in Sinopec Northwest Oilfield. On July 16, it successfully completed the three directional deviation making and sidetracking of an ultra short radius horizontal well with a designed well depth of 7100m in western oilfield, and successfully produced the well, creating a new record of ultra deep well drilling application.
Domestic high-strength titanium alloy drill pipe will effectively avoid overload, leakage, corrosion and other failure accidents of traditional steel drill pipe under harsh conditions such as ultra deep and short radius sidetracking. Relevant achievements will provide strong technical support for promoting the large-scale application of titanium alloy drill pipe technology in China and promoting the development of ultra deep and short radius drilling technology in China.
