Sugar mill filtration
As the global demand for sugar and sugarcane ethanol increases, the number of sugar mills and refineries is also increasing.
The pressing process involves several stages of washing, and chopped and ground sugarcane is often mixed with water before the final product is achieved.
Sugar factories need efficient rotary juice screen to recycle not only sugar products, but also process water.
Industrial filters can even be used to process sugar aqueous solutions with low Brix or high temperature.
Once the water passes through the grinding and pressing process, a large amount of wastewater can also be recycled through the industrial water filtration system for lower grade applications.
The reduction of wastewater reduces the impact on the environment and improves the system efficiency.
The self-cleaning water filter used during milling works best near the discharge port of the main pump. The usual water quality specifications for sugar mills and refineries specify 10 μ- five hundred μ Filter level.

Most filtration systems in sugar mills are designed for low capacity and low pressure. Filter additives are usually used to establish filter cake to achieve the necessary filtration level.
The disadvantages of these filters are very large floor area, heavy structure, use and handling of filters, and a lot of attention of operators. This leads to high mining costs.
The sugar industry began to provide self-cleaning filtration systems for tap water and condensers (raw juice and carbonate).
Sugar factory engineers require the development of a system to filter sugar juice (concentrated juice) before crystallization.
The sugar juice enters the main inlet header and flows into the main outlet header through the filter. The reverse cleaning starts with the signal of the DP monitor, which has been set at a predetermined level.The sugar mill filter consists of three compartments: coarse screening compartment, fine screening compartment and lower compartment. A hydraulic motor is also installed on this side of the filter. Automatic cleaning filter realizes full automation in the real sense. The filter adopts stainless steel filter screen to filter sugar juice or syrup. The filtering accuracy is up to 20 microns, which will not cause the blockage of the filter screen. According to the content of suspended solids, the filters can be used in parallel to treat sugar juice with large flow – in fact, any flow can be treated. The filtration accuracy is 20-4000 microns.
Backwashing technology can greatly reduce the flushing flow, which can be reduced by about 95% compared with other current filtration equipment. Many filter manufacturers provide a variety of stainless steel self-cleaning filters.
The plate evaporator in sugar factory is often blocked by solid particles or bagasse fiber because of its small gap.
These particles usually need to be filtered and removed. The sugar juice distributor on the evaporator is also often blocked by particles.
The whole process of self-cleaning of automatic cleaning filter only takes 10 seconds, and it can be continuously cleaned.
The washed liquid can be sent back to the clarifier, to the initial process, to the filter press or filter membrane for utilization. The filtrate or exudate can be sent back to the clarifier or downstream, depending on the requirements of the process system.
